TRYOUTS:
Due to limits on team sizes, we will not be able to offer every student that comes to tryouts a spot on the volleyball team. Students should focus on the things they can control during tryouts (i.e their effort, energy, attitude, teamwork skills, and being coachable). Getting cut can be a difficult experience for players (and parents). The adage of "when a door closes, a window opens" is often true and if students don't make one of the volleyball teams, there are many other sports teams, clubs, and activities at TJHSST they can and should participate in. Students that learn to overcome setbacks quickly become more resilient and adapt well in the face of adversity.

Bring a full water bottle to tryouts. August is hot and tryouts can be physically rigorous.

ATTIRE
Players will be expected to be wearing proper volleyball attire when in the gym:
- T-shirts (short or long sleeve) -- NOTE: NO crop top/cut-off shirts
- Spandex shorts (gym shorts are acceptable)
- Volleyball or gym shoes (non-marking soles)
- Hair must be kept off the face, so recommend hair ties: metal hair pins or clips are NOT permitted
- Knee pads are recommended (NOTE: if you make a team, you will need white knee pads without large logos on them)
PRACTICE
Practices start immediately after tryouts and run from August to late-October/mid-November.
Practice occurs every day after school (Teams will occasionally have Saturday practices). There are no practices on game days. Practice times will change for inclement weather, and/or school events as designated by the student activities office. On days of inclement weather or school events, the DSA office will contact coaches, who will notify the team captains to tell the players for their respective teams. Varsity is usually the only team that will practice during inclement weather.

TRYOUTS include:
- Athletic Testing: All Players (core strength, vertical jump, shuttle run)
- 3-4 days of tryouts for Varsity
- 4-5 days of tryouts for JV and Freshmen
