Head Coach
Mark Gray-Mendes
"Coach Mark" (TJHSST Class of 2003) enters his 14th season at the helm of the Jefferson Men's Basketball program as its all-time leader in wins (91), postseason wins (5), and Regional Tournament appearances (7). Of Fairfax County's twenty-five men's Varsity basketball coaches, he is the fourth-longest-serving coach at his current school. In his first season (2010-2011), the program achieved its first winning regular season since the 1995-96 campaign, and in year two the program broke its sixteen-year streak without a postseason win. The program secured its first Holiday Tournament Championship in over twenty years with the Joe Cascio Classic title in 2012-13 as part of a historic six-game winning streak. The program also earned its first-ever consecutive Region Tournament berths in 2017 and 2018, in both cases coming up just shy of advancing against state powerhouses Patrick Henry (Roanoke) and Potomac Falls.
Coach Mark is proudest of the program's selection as the first-ever Boys' recipient of the Cardinal Basketball Officials Association (CBOA) Sportsmanship Award in 2017. As a player, Coach Mark was an Honorable Mention All-District selection in the Concorde District in 2003 before moving on to attain his BA in Government/American Politics from the University of Virginia. He spent six years as an Assistant in the TJHSST Activities Office from 2013-19 and continues to serve the school as the "Voice of the Colonials" at home football games as well as numerous other athletic contests. He currently serves as the Director of Development and Outreach for the TJ Partnership Fund, the 501(c)3 non-profit foundation supporting the educational programs and alumni of TJHSST.
