Heather Murphy

Head Athletic Trainer

Heather Murphy is the full-time Head Athletic Trainer at TJ.  She grew up an Air Force brat and traveled in her childhood. She graduated from O’Fallon Township High School in O’Fallon, IL in 1994.  She went on to study Exercise Science and Athletic Training at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO.  After receiving her BS and becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer, she attended Michigan State University and received a MS in Kinesiology.  This will be her 23rd year as an AT at TJ and in FCPS. She enjoys puzzles, bird watching, and keeping @TJHSST_Sports & @TJHSST_AT twitter & Instagram accounts updated. She is also Adjunct Faculty and a Preceptor for George Mason University and oversees GMU Athletic Training Students. Dr. Murphy was a 2013 FCPS Support Employee of the Year Finalist, awarded the NATA Preceptor of the Year in 2018, the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association's Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2019, and was named an Adjunct Teacher of Distinction at George Mason University in 2021. She completed her Doctorate of Education in Health Professions from AT Still University in 2022.
